TOURISM AS ECONOMY

Like in other south pacific nations, the economy of the Cook Islands is hindered by its isolation from foreign markets, periodic devastations from naturally occurring disasters and natural resources.Tourism is the major source of economy with minor exports of goods and citrus fruits. Manufacturing is limited to clothing, fruit processing and some handicrafts.Deficits in trade are made up by remittance from emigrants and by foreign aid from New Zealand.
